THURLES students took home seven awards and Highly Commended Projects from the 46th BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2010, which took place in the RDS between January 12th and 16th last.
Thurles' Presentation Secondary School was strongly represented at the Finals, with five groups from the 'Pres going forward to the final competition. The five groups had to beat off stiff competition from Ireland's top young budding scientists.
The BT Young Scientist Exhibition received 1,588 projects this year from a record number of 329 schools from all 32 counties. Judges had the difficult task of narrowing this number down to 520 projects, which were then selected to take part in the final competition.
Thurles Presentation Secondary School took home a raft of silverware including two Display Awards, a Category Award in Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a special Institute of Technology Ireland Award, and three 'Highly Commended' projects.
Over 80 judges from the world of business and academia interviewed and assessed each team throughout the week with the eventual winners announced at the Awards Ceremony last Friday night.
