New Mayors Elected in Tipperary

NEWLY elected Councillor Evelyn Nevin (Lowry Team) was elected Mayor of Thurles Town Council having won out on a vote of 6/3 against poll topper Jim Ryan (Independent).
The Deputy Mayor is also a newcomer to the political scene with Cllr Gerard O'Brien taking the position unopposed.

In Templemore Lily O'Brien (FG) was elected to the post of Mayor unanimously. First elected as Mayor in 1994, this is Cllr O'Brien's third term in the chair. She was proposed by Cllr Joe Bourke (Ind), and seconded by Cllr Maura Byrne (FG).

Poll topper Joe Bourke was chosen for Deputy Mayor. Cllr Bourke was proposed by Cllr Martin Fogarty (Ind), and seconded by Cllr Valerie Young (Ind Lowry Group).

In Cashel, Cllr Eddie Bennett (Ind) was elected to Mayor, being proposed by Cllr Dr Sean McCarthy (FF), seconded by Cllr Michael Browne (SF). Cllr Michael Browne was elected to Deputy Mayor, proposed by Dr McCarthy, seconded by Joe Moloney.

Cllrs Eddie Bennett, Dr Sean McCarthy, Joe Moloney, Michael Browne, and Maribel Wood voted in favour, with Cllrs Martin Browne, Dan Dillon, Eoghan Lawrence, and PJ Quinlan opposing.
