Bob from his early years involved himself in everything that was for the betterment of our parish. In the distant past when parochial funds were needed, he organised 25 Card Games, Non Stop Draws and Sales of Work, all of which were most successful. In 1970 when Restoration of the Abbey commenced, a huge amount of money was required, a small Restoration committee was selected, Bob was one of those who steered that fund raising campaign.
A daily Mass goer, Bob attended most ceremonies in the Abbey and for over 60 years he did the "basket" collection on Sundays. He was a founder member of the Legion of Mary in our parish. An intense reader of books and especially since his retirement he has read thousands - he also liked the weekly game of scrabble. Kind, courteous and obliging, Bob had a great sense of humour, an acclaimed raconteur. When you saw that glint in his eye you knew he was up to some jocularity. Bob is sadly missed. His requiem Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Breen P.P. assisted by Fr. Fogarty P.P. Canon Liam Ryan, Fr. T. Fogarty, President St. Patrick's College, Fr. O'Dwyer, Fr. Cunningham, Fr. Barry, Pallottine College, Fr. Tierney, Fr. Martin Dwan, Archbishop Dermot Clifford presided. Chief mourners were his wife Kit, sons Robert, Tim and Tony, Sr. Eileen and Maeve Maher (sisters), Mick and Fran (Brothers), (predeceased by his brother Fr. Tony), daughters-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
