Winning E10.6m lotto ticket bought in Thurles

LAST night’s E10.6m winning lottery ticket was bought in Thurles, Co Tipperary

Excited speculation is filling the Cathedral town today as it’s emerged that last night’s jackpot winning lotto ticket was bought in local newsagent Scanlan’s, in Liberty Square, Thurles Co Tipperary. There was just one overall winner. National media and reporters from all over the country have descended on 61 Liberty Square, with passersby being quizzed as to who they think scooped the jackpot. Balloons are festooned around the shop in celebration.

Manager Vincent Scanlan said there was great excitement in the shop, but declined to speculate on who the lucky winner might be. “I’d be guessing it’s somebody local because 90% of my trade are local. But I cannot say it’s somebody local.”

Mr Scanlan’s shop sold a winning E3m lotto ticket about six years ago to a syndicate from Holycross. Mr Scanlan said either he or his assistant sold the winning ticket yesterday. If he won the money himself, Vincent joked that he’d be “cleared out of it. It’s a lot of money.”

“I didn’t hear any rumours whasoever about who won it. I didn’t hear any whiff of any name being mentioned whatsover,” he told the Tipperary Star.

The winning numbers were 3, 8, 11, 23, 27 and 33. The bonus number was 36. The prize was €10, 613,747, and was won with a E6 quick pick.

There were, however, no winners of either of the two other draws. These included the Lotto Plus 1 with a top prize of €350,000, for which the numbers drawn were 4, 17, 19, 23, 25 and 29 with a bonus number 3.

In the Lotto Plus 2 game, which carries a prize of €250,000, the numbers were 7, 18, 20, 27, 37 and 38 with the bonus 29.
