Tipperary suppliers to Aldi taste success at Blas na hÉireann awards

Two of Aldi’s Tipperary suppliers tasted success at the Blas na hÉireann National Irish Food Awards, winning one gold and one silver medals for their products. Oakpark Foods, Cahir won gold for Aldi’s Specially Selected Dry Cured Smoked Bacon Loin and ABP Cahir won silver for Aldi’s Nature’s Isle Select Cut Fillet Steaks.

Aldi’s Irish suppliers won a total of 12 Blas na hÉireann Awards and have picked up more Blas na hÉireann awards than the suppliers of any other retailer over the last three years.

Aldi now partners with over 125 Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers, whose products are responsible for generating over 50% of the grocery sales at Aldi.

Aldi Ireland’s Group Buying Director, Niall O’Connor, said: “We are delighted that our Tipperary suppliers have tasted national success. Our own-brand products are sourced from some of the best food producers in the country and it’s our commitment to providing quality Irish products at unbeatable prices that is attracting new shoppers to Aldi and growing our loyal customer base in Ireland. Our buying team works hard to offer own-brand Irish products that consumers can trust and it is great to see these products recognised for their high quality and taste by our peers.

Now in its fifth year, the Blas na hÉireann National Irish Food Awards celebrate and reward the very best in Irish food. With gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded across 50 food categories, the Awards focus solely on taste, with the winners chosen as a result of blind tastings by a team of Ireland’s top food experts.

Aldi recently launched a new advertising campaign, ‘Love Ireland, Like Aldi’, which focuses on buying Irish, highlighting Aldi’s strong Irish sourcing credentials and longstanding partnerships with Irish farmers and producers. The campaign emphasises to Irish consumers that they can buy quality Irish groceries at an affordable price by shopping with Aldi.

The award wins follow Aldi’s recent strong showing at the prestigious Great Taste Awards in London, where its products won 47 Great Taste Awards, 29 of which were produced by Irish suppliers.
