Wood Welcomes Proposed Works on Clonmel Road
Confirmation from Mr. Willie Corby, Area Engineer, that a programme for the provision of footpaths and public lighting between Ard Mhuire and St Cormacs cemetery in Cashel will commence shortly has been welcomed by Councillor Tom Wood.
With significant retail development between the motorway and the town in recent years and an increase in both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, Councillor Wood had raised the matter of safety at a number of roads meetings and he understands that €65,000 has been sanctioned under the Capital Programme for the necessary works.
Meanwhile, in a written reply to a motion tabled at the September roads meeting where he called for steps to be taken in the short and long term to eliminate any future flooding at Saint Cormacs cemetery, he was advised that the County Council has recently cleaned the stream and sluggeragh in the vicinity of the GAA pitch.
The reply also states that, “In the short to medium term, subject to the availability of funding, it is hoped that the upstream sections of the streams east of the M8 motorway can be diverted to prevent future flooding in the Dualla road and Wallers Lot areas.”
