RTÉ’s At Your Service Features Terryglass

Expert hoteliers Francis and John Brennan are back on our screens for a brand new series of RTÉ’s At Your Service.

Eight more businesses enlist the expertise of the Brennans as they struggle to survive the recession and successive poor summers.

It’s a tough time for the hospitality industry, fortunately once again the Brennan brothers have some answers.

Francis and John Brennan are proprietors of the five-star Park Hotel Kenmare, Co. Kerry.

They bring with them many years of top-level experience, but with the recession raging, the challenges get tougher every year.

The Brennans assess each business from top to bottom and identify areas that need improvement.

In the current climate every possible avenue needs to be exploited and the Brennans look at signage, bedrooms, receptions, lounges, kitchens, service arrangements, menus, websites, target markets, the all-important family politics, etc.

Each business has its unique set of problems, but they all have one thing in common - if they want to stay in business they need to fight harder than ever before.

Among the business owners featured this year on RTÉ’s At Your Service are Mairead and Brendan Tierney, who by trade are a banker and a farmer.

Despite their lack of hospitality experience, six years ago they decided to buy a pub, Paddy’s Bar in Terryglass.

Recently they have expanded the business into the four-star Riverrun self-catering cottages and a tearoom with a gift shop.

In this week’s episode they sought the Brennans advice about the best way to run the new businesses.

But Francis and John have a rather shocking analysis of what really needs to be done.

This series of At Your Service features a diverse range of properties and stories, from a golf club that has been hit hard by the recession, to a historic Dublin arts club with drastically dwindling membership.

Also featured is an historic country house that needs to start making money to ensure its future survival.

Catch Terryglass’ very own Riverrun Cottages and Paddy’s Bar on RTÉ’s At Your Service on RTÉ One on Sunday, January 27th at 8.30pm.
