Roscrea Festival – A Great Success

The dust has settled on what was a very successful RoscreaBeo festival.

The festival which was sponsored by Roscrea Credit Union & Roscrea Super Valu with generous support from Roscrea Lions Club, North Tipperary County Council, Roscrea Heritage Society and Shannon Development drew hundreds of people to the majestic surrounds of the Roscrea Castle Courtyard on Sunday week last.

The organising committee would like to thank all those who helped make the festival such a great success. Fortunately the weather was good for most of the day which made the occasion even extra special. A big thank you to various organsiations in the town who helped out on the day especially Roscrea Musical Society, Roscrea Comhaltas, Roscrea Scouts and the Order of Malta. Thanks also to the local Gardaí and to everyone associated with the Youth Café. The Fas workers were a great support as were all the other volunteers. A big thank you to the Blacksmiths who helped draw large crowds with their fantastic display on Castle Street outside the castle gates. Thanks to the business community including Super Valu, The Credit Union, Redmonds of Roscrea, Kelly O’Rourkes, Dohertys, Petals, Damer Court Hotel Walsh Printing, Twilight/Ger O’Meara, ClubG, Abbot Entertainment, O’Donnell’s Jewelers, Glitzy Bitz, Tesco, Shaws, Moloneys, The White House, Brendan’s, Frawley’s Chemist and Roscrea Centre Pharmacy for all their support.

Throughout the day there was wonderful entrainment in the Castle grounds. The medieval enactments brought back memories of the great Aonach festivals of 2005 and 2006 in Roscrea. The cork circus act was something very different and enjoyed by all. Hospice took us for a trip down memory lane with the Wheel Of Fortune and the String Quartet, Roscrea Comhaltas and all the Buskers young and old provided great entertainment.

There was plenty of stalls and craft displays at the festival and the organsing committee would like to thank all the participants. Thanks also to those that ran the novelty events and congratulations to all who took part in the Roscrea Miscellany including Joe Coughlan, Tom Stapleton, Colm McNicholls,Tadhg Maher, John Browne, Liam Doran, and Fiona Baldwin

The “Sacred Space” concert was a great success and was led by Triona Walsh whose tireless efforts helped make the overall day such a great success. Thanks to Rev Lesley Robinson and the Parish of St Cronan’s Church of Ireland for the use of the Church and thanks to all the participants including Nicole Robinson, Adam McDonagh, Marie Power, Fiona Baldwin, Fr Richard Purcell, Joan Murray & the Killaloe Diocesan Brendan/Cronan Cluster Choir.

Popular local bands “The Winter Passing” and “Planet 15” were in concert on the day as was Eddie Simmons and John Hutchinson. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse in the late evening so the concert had to be moved indoors.

Finally the committee would like to thank all the local media for their support as well as the OPW and all the OPW workers in Roscrea. A final word of thanks to local Heritage Officer Marion Carey and Mary Brennan from North Tipperary County Council and Kate Moloney from the Heritage Council Of Ireland. The committee is already planning next year’s event. Well done everyone.
