‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’ - Centenary Festival

January 2012 marks the 100 anniversary of the first rendition of the historic song “It’s a long long way to Tipperary.”

To mark the occasion Tipperary Chamber of Commerce are asking all schools in county Tipperary to have a simultaneous rendition of the song. It would be great if all schools could assemble in their gym or hall and belt out their version of Tipperary’s most famous song at 12noon.

Recordings can be put up on youtube. Let’s see which school has the most hits. This is the start of a year when we can all put Tipperary on the world map with the Tipperary Centenary Festival.

“It’s a long way to Tipperary” will take place from the Thursday 5th July to Sunday 15th, with 10 days of concerts, street entertainment a vintage week in the 19th century town. A giant Tipperary Tea Party and Historic Band festival will culminate in two Guinness World Records for most bands playing the Song and most people singing the famous Tipperary song. So come along, it’s really not that far to go!
