Chamber of Commerce - September Highlights

Convent Building Sale

Chamber Secretary Brian King spoke about the sale of the Convent Building and the efforts to get the County Council to consider buying the site. Cllr Michael Smith supported the move for a variety of different reasons including the fact that the Council do not hold a lot of land banks at the moment in Roscrea. In his communications with the Council, the Chamber Secretary said that the site could be used for the development of a town park in addition to numerous community projects including a multipurpose community centre.

RoscreBeo Festival

The Chamber discussed the RoscreBeo festival. The organising committee was congratulated on their efforts and it is hoped that the festival will go on to become even bigger and better next year.

Christmas Lights

Jo Jo Cunningham and her team of volunteers were thanked for their recent Church gate collection the proceeds of which were donated to Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce to help the Christmas Lights effort. The cost of the lights is proving to be a constant burden on the Chamber’s resources so any effort to help mitigate against their cost is most appreciated.

Roscrea Tidy Towns

The Roscrea Tidy Towns Committee was congratulated on their recent result in the national competition. While some members of the Tidy Towns committee are disappointed that the increase in marks again this year was not more, the reality is, Roscrea never looked as well as it did this summer and in this regard the Tidy Towns Committee deserves tremendous praise. Discussions took place as to how the Chamber could help more with the effort and it is hoped that if the Chamber can formulate some ideas into an action plan that the business community will be supportive.

Roscrea Town

Enhancement Plan

As Chairman of the Town Enhancement Group Brian King gave an update on the plan. A number of consultation meetings have taken place over the last month including meetings with all the stakeholders, the business community and the general public. Further meetings will take place in October and the plan will be finalised by mid November.
