Roscrea Community Choir has been busy at its joyful work over the past year under the baton and guidance of Ms Joan Murray. Practice occurs on Monday nights at the Methodist hall for 2013. At its first meeting of the year, a nice cheque was presented to the Matron; Bronagh of The Dean Maxwell Nursing Unit, the proceeds of Carol Singing exploits just before Christmas.

Among the highlights for the group last year has been their successful performance and participation at the Eucharistic congress in June in the RDS, Dublin. This performance was as part of a larger Killaloe diocesan choir, The Brendan/Cronan cluster choir under the direction of Dom Richard Purcell, Mount St Joseph Abbey; topped off and celebrated by a trip to Knock in August, which was a source of great merriment to the members. Much preparation has gone into the choir in 2012; Dom Richard put the team through its paces with training events in both Mount St Joseph and Glenstal Abbey, Limerick.

The choir also enjoyed a singing workshop in March with the well-known, very energetic and talented, singer/songwriter Marie O’Reilly from Thurles.

The Church of Ireland community marked its 200th anniversary of the building of St Cronan’s church in some musical style at the end of April; and of course the Roscrea Community Choir pitched in to help with the celebrations. The service was led by Archbishop Jackson, Primate of all Ireland assisted by the Bishop of Killaloe, Rev Trevor Williams.
