33 Gatherings Announced for South Tipperary

A total of 33 Gathering events received funding in South Tipperary under the nationwide �2m IPB Gathering Ireland Fund.  Details of the gatherings were announced by Michael Ring, TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport at a launch in Castletown House, Co Kildare.

A total of 33 Gathering events received funding in South Tipperary under the nationwide �2m IPB Gathering Ireland Fund. Details of the gatherings were announced by Michael Ring, TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport at a launch in Castletown House, Co Kildare.

A total of 33 Gathering events received funding in South Tipperary under the nationwide E2m IPB Gathering Ireland Fund. Details of the gatherings were announced by Michael Ring, TD, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport at a launch in Castletown House, Co Kildare.

The gatherings, divided into key county flagship events and community gatherings are funded as a result of a E1M philanthropic donation by IPB Insurance that was matched by the Gathering Ireland in response to the enormous interest expressed nationwide in the tourism initiative. The overall total of 33 funded events in South Tipperary is made up of 2 in flagship events and 31 local community events.

All those who now reside abroad, who have played for Tipperary in either hurling or football from minor level upwards at championship level will be invited home for a weekend of celebration on the weekend of the 9th of June for the Tipperary versus Limerick in the first round of the Munster Hurling Championship Semi-final which will be played in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

The former players will be brought on the Saturday night, 8th June, to Bru Boru in Cashel for a night of Irish cultural entertainment, refreshments and songs and stories in a rambling-house format in which the guests would participate. On Sunday the former players would be brought by bus to Limerick provided with match tickets for the Munster hurling championship semi final and treated to a meal afterwards. The guests will be located in Tipperary for the duration of their stay.

Tipperary Meet your Grandparents Gathering – Tipperary 100 years ago.

On July 14th 2013, Tipperary Town will be re-created as it was 100 years ago in July of 1913. Over 100 people in vintage dress will play the part of locals taken from the 1911 census.

An invitation will be issued abroad to all past residents of Tipperary Town and County to come and experience a replica traditional market town with all the hustle and bustle of a typical market day in Tipperary. Vintage style transport, horse and cart, bicycles, hay carts, vintage prams or toys will only be allowed to enter the streets. Traditional arts and crafts will be performed in the open street – brush dancing, traditional irish dancing, set dancing, traditional music, performances by local Seanachie, enacting of an Irish wedding, an Irish wake, the emigrants departure and soldiers will parade through the town.
