Paul returns to Templetuohy school

Recently, Paul Maher the goalkeeper supreme on the victorious Tipperary Minor Hurling All Ireland team visited his Alma Mater, The Holy Family NS Templetuohy, carrying with him two coveted silver cups, The Trans World Airline Munster Cup and and the Irish Press All Ireland Cup.

The children and staff gave him a rapturous welcome with a special version of “It’s a Long Way to Templetuohy” as he arrived with his parents Michael and Ann Marie, Tomás Hamill, Andy Ryan and Tom Maher.

Principal Carmel McDonnell warmly welcomed Paul and recalled Paul’s days in the school as a dependable hard working student who had a great love for GAA and particularly hurling. She congratulated him on the huge role he played with the Tipp team on All Ireland Day, and also told him how proud the school was of him on his great achievement. She wished him well in the years ahead.

Shy Paul responded by speaking directly to the pupils encouraging them to pay attention to their teachers and to get involved with sport from a young age. It was, he said, a great privilege and honour for him to return to the school holding an All Ireland Cup and Munster Cup. He thanked everybody for all the encouragement, support and good wishes he received during the year but particularly coming up to the All Ireland Final.

Andy Ryan said he was deeply moved by the commitment and dedication of Paul and his team-mates and spoke highly of Paul and Tomás who both trained hard for their place on the 2012 team. The cups were passed around to aspiring GAA hopefuls and many photos were taken. Well done Paul
