Two-Mile-Borris/Moycarkey/Littleton

Littleton Carol Service - On Wednesday, 19th December choirs from the Littleton, Moycarkey and Two-Mile-Borris Churches were joined by children from the Pouldine, Two-Mile-Borris and Littleton Primary Schools as well as local musicians, singers and a recently formed Folk Group in Littleton Church.

Fr. Joe Tynan C.C. in welcoming the large attendance thanked those who had followed up on last years success and put in many hours of preparation especially with the school children. With enhanced sound system, hymns, reflections, carols, songs, poetry and theatre from individuals and all the age groups made for a most enjoyable occasion.

Many remarked that the volume of sound and quality of singing made it one of the best performances ever in Littleton Church. The rendering of ‘Adeste Fidelis’, ‘Little Drummer Boy’, ‘Silent Night’ sung in Irish, German and English as well as a final arrangement of carols was a most uplifting and spiritual experience.

The children and choirs dressed for the occasion added to the enjoyment of the night. Fr. George Bourke P.P. thanked all who had worked hard for a successful outcome, especially Peggy Norris who prepared and directed the joint choirs. Lines read from a poem by Patrick Kavanagh was one of the more prayerful moments, “And I had A prayer, like a white rose pinned, on the Virgin Mary’s blouse”.

It is hoped that this expression of local talent will now become an annual event.
