Recent Deaths - Patrick Wright, Cabra, Thurles formerly Littleton; Nora Costello, Stannix Home and formerly Parkstown; Ciaran Flanagan, Gaile, Thurles; Bridget Nolan, Dublin and formerly Noard and Larry Walsh, Cashel Road, Killenaule.

The Late Nora Costello - The death has taken place on December 12th at Milford Hospice of Nora Costello (nee Armstrong), Stannix Home, Thurles and formerly Parkstown, Horse & Jockey, predeceased by her husband Jack and son John. Her remains were removed from Egan’s Funeral Parlour, Thurles to the Church of St. Peter in Chain, Moycarkey. Requiem Mass on Friday at

11.30 a.m. followed by burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Moycarkey. Deeply mourned by her family, Josephine, Pat, Seamus, Margaret, Kathleen, Maura, Teresa, Breda, Geraldine and Liam, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

As it is not possible with this project to cover the whole county the area selected includes Holycross, Derrynaflan, Liathmore, Fennor, Kilcooley, Boulick, Killeen, Moyglass, Killenaule and other smaller sites. We were informed that some of the Stonemasons who built the Abbey in Holycross also worked in Kilcooley and that Killeen, a graveyard containing the ruins of a church is known as Teampall Geal - bright church. Derryvella also of local interest is “an early Christian enclosure and possibly founded by St. Tigernach. Reputedly the second oldest churchyard in Ireland which must be mentioned once annually by the Pope. However no visible building remains above ground”.

On such a trail the visitor will have a chance to reflect on a more homegrown type of Christianity that existed in the Celtic monastic church. The importance of having signs that would give basic information to the tourist with possible links via bar codes to smart phones is essential for this kind of trail. Anyone with interest in above can contact Conor Ryan, (087) 7378123 at South Tipp. Leader. A progress report on the proposed walking trail at Derrynaflan will be published shortly.

Collection - Self Help Africa will hold a Church Gate collection in the parish on the weekend of December 29th/ 30th. The organisation supports self sufficiency in the developing African countries.
