Sad Harvey seeks a home

My name is Harvey, a most unusual name don’t you think? But then again I am a Labrador, well a Labrador cross and a Labrador should not be given any old name.

I am just over a year old, just a young dog and I have fallen on hard times. Here I am in the Rescue centre when I should be in a loving home, lying in front of a fire relaxing after a good long walk spent sniffing around and retrieving. It is what Labradors were born to do and we do it so well. I am of course a friendly boy and I like dogs. Dogs are such fun. We bounce around and play but when the games are over there is nothing more a Labrador likes to do than return to their owner and be cuddled and loved. I miss all that and, at some stage in my young life, I had a home. I had someone but that someone lost interest and, like many dogs whose owners grow bored with them I was declared unwanted. I am amongst the lucky ones because I was rescued. Being rescued means I do not have to scavenge or fight for food (that would be undignified). I have shelter and a bed but not a home of my own. I have been told that I am stunning: I don’t mean to boast but really, I am. Just look at my photo. I stand tall and proud. I look good, don’t I? I have the softest ears, hazel/green eyes and my fur is apricot/honey coloured. I am divinely handsome but I keep being passed over, I have been here such a long time. I can’t understand why I have not been adopted.

Is it my name? You can change that. I have been here for months now. My best friends at the kennels have found their loving homes. Yet here I remain. We slept and played together and kept each other company and now I am so lonesome. I truly want to be happy and I will be if you will adopt me. I so desperately want a place of my own where I can be a member of the household. I will reward you with my life-long loyalty, love and companionship. You will not be disappointed. I am clever; I will quickly learn the rules and obey them. I have a lot to give and I will give my all to you. I will offer you my heart and my friendship, my loyalty and devotion all the days of my life. I have so much to give, so much to learn, so much to discover in the big wide world and I am longing and waiting to be part of your life. I just want to live my life in the world outside my kennel I just want to belong. It is what I so truly need. Please adopt me; I am waiting just for you. I so want to be a part of your life. Please take me home and

I will be your best friend forever.

H is for home, a place of my own.

A is for ace, the best in the pack.

R is for rich, you don’t need to be.

V is for vacancy, just one for me.

E is for easy, I’m eager to please.

Y is for yours. I hope I can be.

Hopefully yours,

Lonesome Harvey.
