Rathdowney

Review - On Thursday, 29th November the annual Rathdowney Review emerged from the printers and was received with great buzz. We are very pleased to have the great book out in good time and already it is selling like hot buns in the shops. Many copies are on their way overseas where the emigrants are anxiously awaiting its arrival. On Thursday night the committee launched the 28th edition in O’Malley’s Lounge, Rathdowney. A very pleasant group of people attended as we held the post mortem on our edition. The launch was a very pleasant evening spent with all friends who are proud of the Rathdowney Review. The bad weather over the weekend went unnoticed with everyone at home reading the book and enjoying it.

Food & Craft Fair - Christmas Food & Craft Fair in Rathdowney Community Centre on 14th December from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come along to sell your home grown produce, home baking, jams and chutneys, arts and crafts. Book you stall early. For more information contact Margaret Creagh (087) 6756153 between 6 and 9 p.m.

Celebration - On Thursday evening the people of Rathdowney and beyond came together to celebrate 75 years of education at St. Fergul’s College. The school was first opened in September 1937. It was then called the Tech and consisted of three rooms, cloakrooms and toilets. It was a great amenity in the area at the time and it went from strength to strength while the basic rooms of the old Tech are still there, the place has been extended to a huge college with all kinds of facilities. 500 pupils attend the college with a large number of teachers. We met the third generation of pupils and the older people were astonished at the building. We wish the college continued success and say Well Done.

Carol Service - On Sunday, 23rd December a Carol Service will be held in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Rathdowney at 7 p.m. We welcome this Service for Christmas and hope there will be a very good attendance. Practice is already under way.

Knitters - The knitting Club is going very well and meet every Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Communal Centre of Cuan Bhride. We have done excellent work and have knitted lots of baby hats for three Maternity Hospitals. We also have donated knitting and other pieces to the Cuisle Centre in Portlaoise for their Sale of Work. The Knitting Club is a wonderful success where the ladies do excellent work and enjoy the chat and the friendship, so long may it last. With Christmas coming the Club will take a break after our meeting on Monday, 10th December and resume again on Monday, 14th January. Wishing all the Knitters a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year. We welcome new members in 2013.
