Mullinahone

A Hopeful Sign -

Earlier this Summer Mullinahone U/14 side did well to win the South Tipp U/14 ‘B’ hurling championship. In the end they lost out in the County semi-final to the eventual County champions Kildangan but their displays along the way gave hope for the future. On Saturday last these hopes were increased for 2013 when an U/13 side travelled to a Blitz in the West and giving good displays in all their games they returned with the spoils. The side was made up of the younger members of the U/14 side augmented by some U/12’s who were somewhat young to step up last year to U/14 level. Some of these lads however have been doing well recently in schools competition with such as Martin Kehoe, Cillian White and Darragh O’Brien playing on the Kilvemnon N.S. team which won the County Small Schools Football Title. On Saturday the local U/13’s took on Clerihan, Rockwell Rovers (New Inn), and Galtee Rovers (Bansha) and came home with the laurels. Among the now older members of the team were Eoin Brett, Bailie Grace and Oisin McNamara.

The Blitz was for eleven a side teams. We hope to have the full panel of lads for you next week. Meanwhile congratulations to both the lads and to the mentors who looked after them.

Off to the Gambia - As published last week, early in the New Year off to Gambia on an educational mission is local retired teacher Ms. Teckie Brett. She leaves on January 6th to spend six weeks mentoring students teachers and giving a hand to class teachers. As education supplies in schools there are most basic or non existent, any help will be hugely appreciated. All volunteers travel to Africa entirely at their own expense. Ms. Brett is appealing to readers for donations and even a little help will go a long way. If you wish to help out, donations can be given to Ms Brett personally or placed in a sealed envelope and left into a special box in Brett’s Hardware Store. We wish Teckie every success in her missionary venture.
