Recent bereavement - The St. Patrick’s G.A.A. Club extends it’s deepest sympathy to the Murphy family, Newtown on the untimely death of Joe Murphy after a short illness. Joe was a very popular member of our community and the huge crowd which attended his funeral was a testament to his popularity. Joe who hailed from Co. Carlow came to Drangan in 1992 with his family when he purchased the Four Provinces Bar and Lounge. Joe who was already well known to farmers in the area through his work with the animal feed division of Glanbia quickly became well known to everyone in the community of Drangan. He ran his public house business very well and many people have very fond memories of enjoyable nights in Murphy’s Bar and lounge. Joe and Ann left Drangan for a few years but with some of their family having settled in Drangan, it wasn’t long before Joe and Ann moved back to Drangan to enjoy their retirement close to family and friends. Joe had a great interest in all sports. He especially enjoyed G.A.A. Rugby, Golf and Horse Racing. Joe loved to socialise, was good humoured and always had a word for everyone he’d meet. Joe’s sons Eamon and Darren played football with our club and today Joe’s grandchildren both boys and girls are playing with our juvenile teams. Eamon was the goalkeeper when St. Patricks won the Junior ‘B’ South hurling final in 1998.

To his wife Ann, sons Eamon, Cathal and Darren, daughters Sinead, Deirdre, Orla, Dearbhla and Aine, sons in-law, daughters in-law, grandchildren and to his many relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis de raibh a anam.
