Thurles Squash Club - Celebrating “Thurles European Town Of Sport For 2012”

Over the last two weekends Thurles Squash Club hosted for the first time the Munster Junior Invitation competition at the Thurles Golf Club.

We had over 50 Juniors from all over Munster playing squash in all age categories including Boys U11, Girls U11, Boys U13, Girls U13, Boys U15, Girls U15, Boys U17, Girls U17, Boys U19 and Girls U19 for places on Munster teams for the up coming Inter provincial competitions.

Thurles had 28 juniors competing for places on Munster teams and we had 12 juniors scooping prizes in all age categories and had 22 juniors from Thurles Squash Club finishing in the top five places for Munster teams which was a marvellousachievement from all the juniors at Thurles Squash Club so well done to all.

A special mention to certain individuals for all there hard work in making this a huge success over both weekends and a very Big Thank You to Gerry Connaughton, Ciaran Maher for ensuring the competition ran very smoothly and ahead of schedule, Marie Meaney, Lyndsey Kiely, Katie Kiely for all their assistance and a word of thanks to Grace Phelan for providing and array of delicious buns for the juniors. Finally the Tournament Director Tony Maher for making the eventpossible by pulling it all together with the assistance of all the above people mentioned to make sure that the event was a massive success and set the pathway for the future for making this tournament an annual event on the Irish Squash calendar at Thurles Squash Club.

Congratulations to all 28 juniors that took part in the competition your behaviour both on and off the courts was second to none and your respect to all players was so evident and we have no problems in saying that you made all your parents very proud so well done again.

Congratulations to the 22 players that finished in the top five positions for Munster junior teams and not for getting the people that won prizes playing the very best of juniors in Munster was a massive achievement coming away in the top two positions which included Philip O Connell, Eoin O Connell, Cate Maher, Fiona Guidera, Jack Maher, Claire Dempsey, Frances O Connell, James Symons, Killian Dunne, Aine Symons, Ciaran Maher and Shane Maher.

Tournament Director would like to thank Thurles Golf Club for supporting this event and to Parkers Restaurant for providing the food for all juniors over the weekend.
