“On Shield Or Banner”

“On shield or banner”: the archives of the Irish Office of Arms are the intriguing subjects under discussion at The Source, Cathedral, Street, Thurles on Tuesday 19th February as part of the Tipperary People and Places Lecture Series.

Colette O’Flaherty, chief Herald of Ireland says “the Office of the Chief Herald can trace its establishment back to 1552 and its archives constitute a unique resource for Irish family history.” Colette will provide an overview of the collection which includes the records of heraldic administration, registers of grants and confirmations of arms, the Funeral Entries series and Registered Pedigrees and a lot more. She also promises to explore sources specific to Co. Tipperary and Tipperary family history.

During the course of her career with the National Library of Ireland, Colette has had several positions prior to her appointment as Keeper of Manuscripts and Chief Herald of Ireland in 2010.

All are welcome; admission is free, refreshments available.
