North Tipperary Macra

It was a busy week in North Tipperary with several events taking place. On Friday a table quiz was held by the Devilsbit club, clubs from Tipperary, Offaly and Kilkenny were in attendance to support the event. The club would like to thank all those that supported their event and well done also to the Moyne/Templetuohy team on winning the quiz with a narrow victory.

On Saturday last saw three of the North Tipp clubs head west to Galway to compete in the All-Ireland semi finals of the macra public speaking and impromptu public speaking competitions. For some it was their first outing in the event and for others revisiting the competition at this level. The first event of the evening was the public speaking competition which saw the novice team from the Nenagh club go up against some very experienced opponents. In the end the team of Una Ryan, Karen Power and Niamh Gleeson had to settle for third whilst speaking on the topic “that Ireland is losing its national identity”.

In the impromptu public speaking competition; Con McGrath of Devilsbit and Martin Fogarty of Moyne/Templetuohy saw action whilst speaking on totally random topics at a moments notice. Well done to Con on coming third on what was his first outing at this level. We would like to thank our hosts Galway Macra for hosting the event and providing a great night for all during and after the event.

The forthcoming week will see the last of this years county competitions with the indoor soccer tournament taking place in the sports hall in St Josephs school Borrisoleigh on Thursday at 8.00 O’clock. The next meeting of the North Tipperary county executive will take place this Friday at 8.30 in Quinlan’s Pub, Moyne and all clubs are requested to attend. Following the meeting at 9.30 there will be a quiz and raffle held by the Moyne/Templetuohy club, also in Quinlan’s on the night.
