Famine Memorial to be Erected in St Mary’s

On Saturday morning December 22nd members of the Durlas Eile Eliogarty Memorial Committee with members of Thurles Town Council and theOrder of Malta laid wreaths in St Marys Garden of Remembrance.

Mr P.J. Ryan, D.M Order of Malta, Thurles laid a wreath at the Order of Malta Memorial. Councillor David Doran laid a wreath at the Irish Independence Memorial. Mr Pat Walsh Chairman of Memorial Committee laid a wreath at the United Nations Memorial to all Irish soldiers who lost their lives in the service of peace. Councillor Noel O’Dwyer laid a wreath at the Garda Siochana Memorial. Mr John Wort, President of the Memorial Committee laid a wreath at the grave of Tom Semple on behalf of the Semple family and the Memorial Committee.

In the next few months the committee are planning to erect a memorial to all men women and children who died during the famine in Co Tipperary.
