Cashel Lions Club held their senior citizens party in Halla na Feile on Sunday afternoon and one hundred and sixty people turned up to enjoy a wonderful occasion. This was the first time the event was held during the day and the Lions were encouraged by the turnout. Traditionally the party was held on a Wednesday night.

The afternoon got underway with a punch reception which was much appreciated on a day when temperatures didn’t get beyond 5 degrees. This was followed by a most enjoyable meal provided by Rockwell College and served by the Lions members and their partners, plus very welcome help from the Transition Year students at Cashel Community School.

The top table at the meal was graced by Lion President, Paul Monks, who welcomed everyone to the party, Fr. Christy O’Dwyer, P. P, Dean Philip Knowles and Monsignor James Ryan. Also present were Cashel Person of the Year, Neil Gregory, and Cashel Young Ambassador, Joe Cronin. Following the meal the attendance enjoyed an afternoon of dancing to the music of a group organised by Ger Slattery, which included Ger Himself, John Flynn, Eamon Ryan, P. J. McGrath and Tommy Moloney. The latter’s group have played at this event for over twenty years but, alas, is no longer in existence. However, Ger and his group proved that all is not lost! There was a big number of spot prizes on offer so that many of the dancers went home with something to remember.

Cashel Lions Club would like to thank the Order of Malta for providing transport for many of the people who attended the party and everybody else who made it a most enjoyable and successful occasion.
