The MacLochlainn Roadmarkings Mid Senior Hurling Semi Finals Take Centre Stage This Weekend.

On Saturday evening the first of the semi finals of the MacLochliann Roadmarkings Mid senior hurling championship takes place when Drom-Inch play Upperchu
rch-Drombane in Holycross at 6.45pm.

This is a repeat of last years Mid Final where the Drom side came out on top on a score line of 2.11 to 0.14. Neither side has so far displayed the form which took them to last years final, yet it is difficult to forecast the outcome of this contest. Drom-Inch will be without their Tipp centre field star James Woodlock who is still recovering from a injury received in last years county final against Thurles Sarsfields. While The Church will have to field without their young half back James Greene who picked up a injury in their last outing against Loughmore-Castleiney.

Sunday sees a fairly intriguing and much awaited game between Holycross-Ballycahill and last years county champions, Thurles Sarsfields. With the talent at their disposal Sarsfields will be strongly fancied to win this one. However the longer the men from Holycross hold on to their opponents tails, the more self belief they’ll have in themselves which could cause problems for the Sars. Yet its difficult not to see Thurles Sarsfields advancing to the Mid Final.

Late Late Show by Upperchurch-

Drombane.

Upperchurch

Drombane 3.18.

Moycarkey Borris 2.19.

This was a fabulous game of hurling played by two great exponents of the game in Drombane last Friday evening. It had everything in it, a feast of scores, forty two in all and about twelve wides between both sides. There was also plenty of blocking and hooking and the lead changed hands many times during the game.

MoycarkeyBorris must have thought they had done enough to get that much needed result as they lead by 2.19 to 3.15 as we entered the dying minutes of the game only to see that victory snatched from their grasp by two Brian Whelan pointed frees and a excellent point from play by the Churches half back Sean Harty which in its self befitted the game.

Both sides exchanged points early in the hour and were level at two points apiece when Upperchurch’s Sean Purcell won the ball out on the wing, found LT Ryan with a great pass who crashed it to the Moycarkey net and they extended their lead when Brian Whelan put over two pointed 65s. Moycarkey’s Paudie Doran and Mossie Bracken narrowed the gap with a point each to leave a goal between the sides as we entered the last quarter of the half. A mix-up in the Upperchurch full back line where they failed to clear saw Moycarkey’s full forward, Tony Flanagan nip in to score a goal. While The Church fought back with points by LT Ryan, Martin Bourke and Brian Whelan it was MoycarkeyBorris who finished the first half the strongest with four unanswered points.
