With only a few shots, separating the top 20 players after the qualifying round, which took place the previous weekend it was all to play for.

With the leaders after the first round just holding their own or worse it was left to Kevin Walsh (21) to storm through the pack and leave them all three points adrift with a score of 126 nett for the two rounds.

Sixteen year old Daniel Hickey (17) finished second on 129 nett and if he continues his good form he will be down to single figures before long. Michael A. O'Meara (9) put up a great performance in finishing third overall and in doing so won the gross prize with rounds of 79 and 71 respectively. Michael Mackey (13) one of our distance members from Cork finished on 132 nett with our club treasurer Robert Reid (12), Kieran Cunningham (16) and Danny Keogh (19) filling the minor placings. Sean Lonergan (16) was the best qualifier with 62 nett and our competition secretary Colin Condon (9) had the best final round with 68 nett. The prize presentations took part at the barbecue, which followed the final round on Sunday evening. Our Captain Ian Gough would like to say a special word of thanks to all the members who took part in the competition and especially the committee members who helped him out over the two weekends. Now with the Captain's prize out of the way Ian said that he would like to see members playing their outstanding matches in the McGarry Cup, Spring/Summer league and Mixed Foursomes competitions.


Open Scratch Cups - Do not forget that we have our Open Scratch Cups next weekend. Minor Scratch Cup (18 to 28), Intermediate Scratch Cup (13 to 17) and Junior Scratch Cup (4 to 12). There are 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes in each cup competition and the entry fee is E7 for members and E15 for visitors. All are welcome.


Ladies - Our ladies Tipperary League team went down to a strong Roscrea G.C. team on Sunday last which was played in Roscrea. The team was Mary Comerford & Bernie Phelan, Mary Kenrick & Kay Walsh, Kathleen Shanley & Ann Fitzgerald, Catherine Cooney & Mary Butler, Norma O'Brien & Majella Smyth The ladies Carrigan Trophy competition will be held on Sunday the 9th July so please put your name down as soon as possible if you would like to take part.

Seniors - There is no competition this Wed the 29th July as the seniors are going to play in Clonmel this Thursday morning with the local senior members. The tee off time is 10.00am and all the senior members are welcome. Last Wed 3 Man Scramble competition was won by the team of Paddy Clancy, Jackie O'Dwyer, Terry O'Brien with a score of 58.8. The team of Billy Phelan, Ray Carthy, Andy Gleeson were second with 58.9 and Joe Carroll, John Creed, Mike Howley finished third with 65.4. The seniors hold a weekly competition every Wed. They meet from 10.30am and they have a draw for partners. The entry fee is E5 and they have a different type of competition every week. All are welcome and it is a great way of meeting and making new friends.


Juniors - The team of Darren O'Connor, Arron O'Connor and Ciaran McKenna were the winners of last Wednesday's junior scramble. Tommy Anglim won the 18 hole junior singles competition with a score of 39 points. The junior club have trips organised to go to St Helen's Bay G.C. and Thurles G.C. in the coming weeks, full details on the junior notice board. A reminder to all our junior members that the junior golf competitions will take place on Wednesday at 2pm instead of Saturdays for the remainder of the summer holidays.
